Raven s Story

Charleston, SC USA

'

I knew I was different from everyone else growing up, but I didn't know why. I was always picked on and bullied by kids no matter how hard I tried to be like them. I just wanted to fit in and be 'normal'.

When I was 6 years old, people would tell me I had a 'cute run'. And, at age 10, I became the girl with something 'off' about her. By age 15, I was diagnosed with Central Core Disease.

I learned that I was missing muscle in my legs. And, I learned where the muscles were supposed to grow is just 'bubbles'. I sometimes use the joke that that's why I'm so bubbly, in order to help me cope with it.

However, I never let it stop me. I still hiked, rode horses, and climbed mountains, both physically and mentally. I just did it at my own pace.

My disorder is not seen as an obstacle, but rather a blessing. It helps to show people you can do whatever you set your mind to. You're as strong as you let your mind believe you to be, not your legs."
